The 2023 vintage was another cool, wet vintage for Hoddles Creek, but thankfully, the rain stopped around December, enabling a healthy harvest with balanced ripeness.
The fruit for this wine comes from the family's Top Paddock Vineyard, which has 28 rows of Pinot Noir planted in this west-facing SRM block that slopes towards the north. Being the estate's warmest Pinot site, Franco d'Anna included about 15% bunches in the ferment.
In the winery, this has the same treatment as the Estate Pinot Noir except for the bunch inclusion. This makes the tannins a little finer and gives structure to the wine for further aging. The wine spent 18 months in a cask and is not filtered, fined or stabilised before bottling.
