Inspired by Pat Carmody’s Craiglee Shiraz and Ray Nadeson’s favourite Rhône growers, this wine is Lethbridge’s take on the more restrained and elegant style of Shiraz (or Syrah!). The 2013 is a single-vineyard wine sourced from very low-yielding 35-year-old vines (less than a tonne per acre) at Mount Duneed Estate in Geelong. The fruit was picked by hand, destemmed and left to macerate for eight days before fermentation in 500-litre open vats with daily punchdowns. The wine was then pressed to oak (25% new) for 11 months’ maturation.
