This is a blanc de blancs from a single, extremely rocky Chardonnay vineyard in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Acquired in 2002, this is a steep, south-facing site of fractured chalk. The vines are required to grow exceptionally deep roots, providing an equally deep and complex wine. As Selosse puts it: “The wine, due to the slope of the vine and the impoverishment of clay, is dry, structured with a palatability exacerbated by the concentration provided by the southern exposure.” This is always a super-mineral wine, the raciest and chalkiest of the lieu-dit wines.
