This comprises 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Sauvignon component of this classic Margaret River blend comes from two of Voyager Estate’s exceptional vineyard blocks: Old Block, planted in 1978, and Block 12 on North Vineyard, planted in 1995. The Merlot and Petit Verdot add fleshy texture, earthy flavours and aromatic, floral nuance.
The fruit was picked by hand between 25th March and 4th April. The bunches were destemmed and sorted to retain as many whole berries as possible. Fermentations occurred in small, open-top vats at cool temperatures and saw twice-daily plunging or pumpovers. After 21 days, depending on the parcel, the wines were pressed to tight-grained French oak (50% new) for maturation until blending in January 2016.
