The Pillot family cultivates four small parcels in this famous site, totalling 0.49 hectares. Winemaking follows the same line as for all the other 1er Crus, and no new oak was used this year. The vines here are an average of 55 years old and, as you would expect of such a stony vineyard (caillou is an old French word for stone), intense minerality and depth are both features of this striking wine. It has both textural power and an intense, chalky and earthy minerality that is rare amongst 1er Cru whites. A brilliant Chassagne.

Reviews

“The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets opens in the glass with aromas of nutmeg, fresh bread, crisp orchard fruit and fresh mint. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a concentrated core of fruit, racy acids and chalky structuring dry extract, it marries power and tension to persuasive effect.”
92-94+ points, William Kelly, The Wine Advocate
“After a cheerful lemon and lime colour, there is some reduction to be noted on the palate, with ripe yellow plums behind. There is a huge weight of fruit, a refreshing light salinity, showing the value of old vines here, excellent density and an amazing length. The vintage gives the style, all is there!”
93-96 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
