The single 0.63-hectare vineyard of Les Mazures is one of the very finest villages parcels in Chassagne, producing remarkably classy and textural Burgundies. There are rocky, limestone-rich soils and a southeast aspect, while the location is just under the 1er Cru Les Champs Gains—which goes some way to explaining the quality and breed on offer.

Domaine Paul Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Les Mazures 2020

Reviews

“Ripe pear and quince aromas, a hint of smoke and mineral, plus an understated buttery aroma. On the palate there is a rich, creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity and tension that leads to a lingering finish. The fruit was picked early in 2020 to ensure proper balance, and the grapes were gently pressed and fermented in large used casks.”
95 points, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
“Offering up notes of peach, nutmeg, dried white flowers and freshly baked bread, the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Mazures is medium to full-bodied, taut and electric, with racy acids and a saline finish. It’s always a terrific cuvée, but this year’s is especially good.”
90-92+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
5 Star Wine. “Pale lemon colour again with a light reduction. More intensity. More linear, white and yellow plums, more backbone, delicious salinity behind the flesh and again very long. The regular Chassagne-Montrachet seemed more or less perfect, but the Mazures cuvée takes it even a little further.” 92-94 points
