Surrounded by 1er Cru sites, the evocatively named Les Hâtes is one of the best village terroirs in Santenay. Lamy’s tiny 0.67-hectare plot is in the heart of the climat, in the original walled vineyard. The owner in the 19th century was a certain M. Duvault-Blochet, who also owned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti at that time.

This comes mostly from young vines that were massale selected in 1999 from the vineyards of d’Angerville and Henri Boillot and planted on quality rootstock that produces very small berries and bunches. There is also a parcel of older vines. The 2020 was vinified with 50% whole bunches and there was no sulphur addition until bottling.

Reviews

“Less fruit preserves more freshness. Big in the mouth – structural but not hard – I’d still be waiting for this one – fresh and saline finishing. Really vibrant energy in this finish – that’s potentially a great wine – but, certainly, also for keeping.”
Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
"Rich dense purple, from the nose you know that the grapes got ripe but there is absolutely no feeling of excess. A little bit tougher on the palate, firm tannins, and this will need time to integrate. The fruit is riper but the structure even fresher. Drink from 2026-2032."
90 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
