Surrounded by 1er Cru sites, the evocatively named Les Hâtes is one of the best village terroirs in Santenay. Lamy’s tiny 0.67-hectare plot is in the heart of the climat, in the original walled vineyard. The owner in the 19th century was a certain M. Duvault-Blochet, who also owned a certain Domaine de la Romanée-Conti at that time. This wine comes mainly from young vines that were mass-selected in 1999 from the vineyards of d’Angerville and Henri Boillot and planted on quality rootstock that produces very small berries and bunches. There is also a parcel of older vines. This is loaded with darker fruit notes, hints of violet and a core of graphite-like minerality. A powerful, clay-driven wine that’s muscular, chewy and impressively long.
